Schweitzer Mountain Resort Opens on Thursday, December 6thLimited opening with Musical Chairs operating Sandpoint, ID – Schweitzer Mountain Resort opens today, December 6th with limited operations. Musical Chairs, the lift that services the beginner’s hill will operate today and Happy Trails, the run under Musical Chairs, is open. More chairlifts and runs will open as mountain conditions allow. Recent heavy snowfall of 48-56 inches over a 48 hour period deposited a substantial base that was largely able to withstand melting off during the subsequent warm weather. “We experienced an extreme swing in conditions and temperature,” said Kurt Messersmith, Schweitzer’s snow reporter. “It’s good to see that much of the snowpack made it through the thaw, creating a good base for the season.” The temperatures at Schweitzer Mountain have dipped back below freezing so the solidified snowpack can now be machined into skiable snow. Schweitzer’s grooming crews are working to get more of the mountain open as soon as possible. As it develops, more information will be available at Schweitzer.com or on their snow phone at 208 263 9562. About Schweitzer Mountain Resort
